General household cleaning is easy with natural cleaning recipes. I recommend that you use the microfiber cleaning cloths found on the Natural Cleaning Product Recipes post. Natural cleaning recipes for general household include All-Purpose Spray Cleaner, Dusting Spray and Furniture Polish. I purchase all of the ingredients at my local big box store. The vinegar and baking soda come from Sam’s Club as they are ingredients that are used again and again in a variety of Natural Cleaning Recipes.
All-Purpose Spray Cleaner
DIY Natural All-Purpose Spray Cleaner replaces all those fizzy, smelly aerosol and pump spray commercial cleaners. In one fell swoop, I replaced a cabinet full of these toxic chemicals with a natural, simple cleaner. You can use a plastic spray bottle for the All-Purpose Cleaner if you do not add essential oils. If you want to use essential oils, you will need to use a colored glass bottle with a spray attachment. I don’t add essential oils for general cleaning. I save essential oils for my bathroom cleaning recipes.
All-Purpose Spray Cleaner
- ½ c. white vinegar
- 1 ½ c water (distilled or filtered)
Options:
- 3 drops to 1 t. dish soap
- ¼ c isopropyl alcohol (I use this option as it is the most flexible and works on all surfaces)
- 2 T. baking soda
Mix all ingredients in a spray bottle (glass or plastic). Be sure to shake before each use. This works on all hard surfaces EXCEPT granite or stone. It is fine on synthetic stone and composite granite sinks.
Natural Dusting Spray
This dusting spray is the “cat’s meow” to replace those chemically, heavy and stinky aerosols. It works on paint, wood and is a wizard in the kitchen on stainless steel and my composite granite sink. It cleans and shines my sink while removing the gunk that you can’t really see (the sink is gray) but that turns your microfiber cloth brown. I love the way that it puts a shine that isn’t waxy and doesn’t leave a build up.
Dusting Spray
- 1 c. distilled or filtered water
- ¼ c. white vinegar
- 2 T. olive oil
- 10 – 15 drops essential oil (I use lemon or orange)ea
Mix all ingredients in a glass spray bottle. Be sure to shake before each use. I use the Norwex (lavender) dusting cloth as it doesn’t leave streaks and picks up every bit of dust. I recommend that you don’t saturate any wood surface—it is just to aid in picking up the dust. See below, for Furniture Polish.
Furniture Polish
- ¾ c. olive oil (don’t use the ‘good’ stuff—but make sure it is 100% olive oil)
- ¼ c. white vinegar
- 15 – 30 drops of essential oil
Mix all ingredients in a glass jar or glass spray bottle. Be sure to shake well, before each use.
Granite Cleaner
- 1/4c rubbing alcohol
- 1 1/2c filtered water
- 3 drops dish liquid
Mix all ingredients in plastic or glass spay bottle. This is perfect for granite and makes it really shine. It also is good on stainless steel and glass stovetops. It also disinfects due to the alcohol!
