River Rafting!

Summer is a great time to settle down and relax, but some people want to use the extra free time to have some great adventures, and enjoy new experiences. River rafting is a great choice, if you want to have fun in an adventurous way. In this blog you will see all the safety precautions you should take, how to find the perfect place to float down the rapids, what to pack, and hopefully these tips and tricks will make your trip down to river more stress free.

Safety Precautions!

If you decide you want to go river rafting you will need to make some preparations. It doesn’t take that much more effort to be safer and prepared. Unless you’re a professional, you shouldn’t go rafting alone; especially if you’ll have small children with you. There are many reasons that you should bring a few buddies along, you never know what could happen! Smaller children should have lifejackets. If you feel a little nervous or you’re not a very strong swimmer, maybe you should invest in one, too. There should always be a first-aid kit somewhere, even if you’re hauling it along with you. The rafts you use should be reliable and sturdy. A recommended brand is River Run.

Where Can I Float a River?

First, the easiest way to find a floatable river to raft is to get out your phone and search Rivers near me. Once you find a few rivers in drivable distance from you and your friends, do some research. Keep all the members of your river expedition crew in mind, and their abilities. This part may be a little frustrating depending on where you live. Okay, now you’ve found the river and a good spot to park your car and get in, you can focus on what to pack.

Packing!

First, you will need a medium sized backpack, not a huge one, but not a teeny tiny one. I don’t personally recommended packing phones or electronics unless you have a watertight floating box/dry box. Sunscreen and bug spray are must haves. If you have sensitive skin Neutrogena is a good brand. Lifejackets and at least one first-aid kit, of course covered in the second paragraph. Some snacks in a little ice box would be good if your going to be out for a while. A water proof camera if you’d like and when you’re not using it, then you can put it into the dry box. Some towels and change of clothes for when you’re done, so you’re not shivering all the way home. If you and your crew were looking forward to fishing more than rafting, there’s nothing stopping you from bringing your tackle box and fishing pole.
